HOW TO INSTALL WALL SHELVES?
Before you install your wall shelves, it’s worth attaching the brackets to the shelf before checking where you want to position the shelf against the wall (rather than holding up just the brackets). In this way, you can space the whole piece visually first to ensure the best result.
- Wooden shelves (your choice of wood and thickness).
- Tape measure.
- Wall anchors (choose wall anchors appropriate for your wall type; size should correspond to the screw size).
1. PLACE THE BACK OF THE SHELF
on a flat surface and butt the shelf brackets up against the underside of the shelf. Judge by eye where the brackets should be positioned.
2. MEASURE THE DISTANCE
of each bracket from the edge of the shelf with a tape measure to check each is equidistant from the end. The top and base of the brackets must also be parallel.
3. MAKE LIGHT PENCIL MARKS
for the bracket holes on the underside of the shelf. Attaching the brackets in this “side on” position ensures that they sit flush with the back of the shelf.
4. USE A BRADAWL
to make holes in the underside of the shelf over the pencil marks. If necessary, turn the shelf, face side down, onto a flat surface to do this.
5. INSERT THE SCREWS
through the brackets into the holes, and screw the brackets to the underside of the shelf.
1. HOLD THE SHELF
(with the brackets attached) up to the wall to see where you want to position it. Place a level along the length of the shelf to make sure it is level.
2. MARK THE BRACKET
holes on the wall with a pencil.
1. DRILL HOLES INTO THE WALL
over the pencil marks. Select the drill bit that corresponds to the size of the wall anchors.
2. INSERT THE WALL ANCHORS
and attach the shelf to the wall with the screws using a screwdriver.
